πŸ”¬ Israeli scientists are close to a coronavirus vaccine

The reason the vaccine could be ready so fast is that the scientists were already working on a vaccine against infectious bronchitis virus affecting poultry.

"Let's call it pure luck," said Dr. Chen Katz. "We decided to choose coronavirus as a model for our system just as a proof of concept for our technology."

When the coronavirus started affecting humans, they compared the two and found high genetic similarities.

"And it uses the same infection mechanism, which increases the likelihood of achieving an effective human vaccine in a very short period of time," said Dr. Katz to Jerusalem Post.

The only thing they need to do is adjust the system to the new sequence, which likely takes a few weeks and not months.

The vaccine will be oral, which makes it more accessible to the general public.
