Here’s what it looks like to live off-grid for 77 years

For years, the Optimist Daily has been exploring all the ways that companies and people can live off-grid in this day and age. Meanwhile, a woman by the name of Margaret Gallagher has casually been living off-grid for all of her 77 years.

Her 200-year-old thatched cottage in Northern Ireland has no access to running water or electricity. In fact, it doesn’t even have an indoor toilet. If it weren’t for a wind-up radio, a smattering of color photos and a stack of glossy books in her home, you would have no clue that Gallagher lives in the modern world.

Want to see what it looks like to live off-grid for 77 years? Here is a gallery of photos that document the way Gallagher lives away from the grid.
